Charlotte Sales Recruiters
Hiring a salesperson in Charlotte is not the hard part. Keeping them past month seven is. Jon Ray lives here and runs your search, and the person he places gets a full year of training afterwards. 96% of them are still in the role a year later.
The market
Hiring across the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia metro
The metro runs well past the city line, and where a role sits changes who will take it. Uptown and South End pull differently from Ballantyne, and Concord, Gastonia, Fort Mill and Rock Hill each have their own commute math. We build the success model around where the role actually sits, because a territory a candidate will not drive is a territory that stays open.
Your recruiter
Meet Jon Ray
Jon lives in Charlotte and runs every search we do here. He builds your success model, sits in on the interviews, and calls you when something is not working. He is not an account manager who hands you to a sourcing team after the kickoff call.
That matters more than it sounds. Most sales hires do not fail at the interview, they fail somewhere around month five, quietly, while everybody hopes it turns around. Having one person who knows your business and is still there in month seven is most of the fix.
You will not find a revenueify office in uptown. What you get is Jon's number and his calendar.

What B2B sales roles actually pay in Charlotte
Most recruiting firms will not tell you what a role pays in this market until you are already in a search with them. Here are the numbers, with the government source, the exact occupation code and the percentile each band is anchored to, so you can check the work rather than take our word for it.
| revenueify role band | BLS occupation (SOC) | Basis | Charlotte, annual | Why this basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SDR / BDR | Sales representatives of services (41-3091) | 25th percentile | $45,890 | The occupation mean folds in full-cycle account executives and overstates an SDR badly. The 25th percentile is the honest anchor for an entry-level services seller. |
| Account Executive | Wholesale and manufacturing reps, except technical (41-4012) | Median | $72,500 | The largest single B2B sales occupation in Charlotte at 15,910 people, so the median is well populated and stable. |
| Enterprise AE | Technical and scientific products reps (41-4011) | Median | $124,370 | Technical and scientific selling. A smaller population at 2,520, so treat it as directional. |
| Sales Manager | First-line supervisors of non-retail sales workers (41-1012) | Median | $96,030 | Front-line, non-retail. Note the concentration figure on this occupation in section 05. |
| VP Sales / CRO | Sales managers (11-2022) | 75th percentile | $216,960 | That SOC spans front-line manager to chief revenue officer in one bucket, so the median understates the executive end. The 75th percentile is the defensible anchor. |
Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025 reference period, published 15 May 2026. Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia NC-SC metropolitan statistical area. BLS data is in the public domain and is not endorsed by BLS.
Yes, these numbers include commission
This is the question anyone hiring a seller should ask about any pay data, and for most published salary figures the answer is no. For this one it is yes. The federal wage definition behind these figures explicitly includes commissions, incentive pay and production bonuses alongside base pay. So these are much closer to total earnings than to base salary.
What is not in them: overtime, non-production bonuses such as holiday or stock bonuses, severance, shift differentials, and the employer cost of benefits like health insurance and retirement.
One honest difference from an OTE number: this is what people actually earned, not what they were targeted to earn. It already has the under-performers and the over-performers in it. For setting a budget that is arguably the more useful figure, because on-target earnings assume everybody hits target and almost nobody does.
And yes, this is the newest data that exists
The reference period is May 2025, which looks dated until you know how federal wage data works. The government surveys the period, then spends about a year processing it. This release came out on 15 May 2026. There is nothing more current, and the next one is not due until spring 2027.
What that means practically: pay has moved since the survey, so treat these as a floor rather than a ceiling. If you are pricing a role today, the honest read is that the real number is at or above what you see here. We would rather show you the dated figure and tell you which way it has drifted than publish a made-up current one.
Use these to sanity check a band before you post it, not to price one candidate. If you want the second number, what an offer actually has to look like right now to close a specific profile, that is a conversation and it is free.
The number everyone else gets wrong
Why the published average for Charlotte sales pay is off by 70 percent
If you look up sales compensation for this metro, you will find something close to $59,800. That figure is real, it is federal, and for hiring a B2B seller it is close to useless. Here is why.
Nearly half the group is retail
Retail salespersons and cashiers total 62,500 of the 139,760 people in the Charlotte sales and related occupational group. That is 44.7 percent of the group, and between them they average $33,178.
They are not B2B comparators
Neither occupation involves a pipeline, a quota, a territory, or a sales cycle. They sit in the same statistical bucket for classification reasons, not commercial ones.
The B2B occupations pay far more
The six genuinely B2B sales occupations employ 42,820 people in this metro and average $102,095, weighted by employment.
So the headline understates by 70.7 percent
$102,095 against $59,800. Anyone benchmarking a Charlotte sales offer against the group average is budgeting roughly $42,000 per role below the market they are hiring in.
revenueify vs the rest
Most recruiters find you a resume. We build you a producer
A traditional recruiter hands you candidates and a bill. We benchmark, onboard, train and stand behind the hire, so the search ends with a rep who is still selling in year two.

Who is actually out there
Charlotte has an unusual number of experienced sales leaders
Pay tells you what a hire will cost. This tells you how many people there are to hire, which is the question that decides whether a search takes five weeks or five months. Charlotte has more B2B sellers and sales managers per head than most cities its size, and the surplus is very specific about which roles.
| Type of sales role | How many are here, vs a typical US metro | What that means when you are hiring one |
|---|---|---|
| Sales managers, the front-line kind who run a team | Almost 2x as many | This is the standout. Charlotte has nearly twice the usual number of working sales managers for a city its size. Sales leadership is the hardest role to fill in most markets. Here it is one of the easier ones. |
| Financial services and investment sales | 2.3x as many | The banking sector. The deepest pool in the city by a distance, and a good place to look if your product sells into finance. |
| Sales engineers, the technical pre-sales role | 1.8x as many | Well above normal, but still only about 800 people in total. These searches move fast or they do not move at all. |
| Insurance sales | 1.6x as many | Another deep bench, for the same banking-town reasons. |
| Account executives selling into distribution and manufacturing | 1.5x as many | The biggest B2B group in the city at nearly 16,000 people, and still more concentrated here than the national norm. |
| Retail floor staff | About the same as anywhere | Worth saying plainly. Charlotte is not a sales town because of its shops. The surplus is entirely in the business-to-business roles above. |
These comparisons use the BLS location quotient, which measures how common a job is in one metro compared with the country as a whole. 2x means Charlotte has twice the share of its workforce in that role than the US average does. Why sales only
We recruit sales. That is the entire practice
Most recruiting firms handle sales alongside finance, operations, IT, hospitality and everything else. That is a reasonable business, and it is a different business from ours. A generalist recruiter has to screen for background, because background is the only thing they can read across twenty functions. Sales does not reward that. The best rep on the shortlist is regularly the one with the least impressive resume.
Sales and sales leadership, nothing else
Individual contributors through CRO. Because we only look at one function, we can benchmark against a sales success model rather than against a job description.
We train sales for a living
revenueify is a sales training and revenue operations firm first. We are not guessing what good looks like, we are in front of sales teams teaching it every week, which is what makes the screening real.
A full year of training comes with the hire
Not a handoff call. Your new hire is trained on Customer Focused Selling® for a year alongside your existing team, so there is one methodology in the building instead of two.
Assessment, not impressions
PXT Select® and Everything DiSC® on every finalist, and the F.I.N.D. Interview System® so your hiring team scores candidates the same way.
The training is the part worth pausing on, because it is the reason the recruiting works rather than a bonus attached to it. A rep who arrives with no method spends their ramp inventing one. A rep who arrives into a methodology the rest of the team already runs is measurable in week three, and that is most of the difference between a hire that sticks and a hire that quietly does not.
96% of the sales professionals we place clear the one-year mark
Firm-wide across every revenueify placement. That number is the training, not the sourcing. Anyone can find you a candidate who accepts. Keeping them producing a year later is a different job, and it is the one we are actually measured on.
Proof
One search, start to finish
The problem behind this one is the one most people arrive on this page carrying: the recruiters they had tried kept sending candidates who interviewed well and could not actually work the deal.
| Detail | |
|---|---|
| The situation | Circadia sells integrated commercial environments: furniture, AV technology, construction, architectural walls and flooring. They needed to add sales capacity without disrupting the momentum the existing team already had. |
| Why it was hard | Standard tech sales recruiters kept producing the wrong people. Candidates trained on transactional SaaS cycles could not carry a multi-stakeholder deal spanning furniture, AV, construction and design, into buyers like healthcare facilities, on a long cycle. The profile looked right on paper and failed in the room. |
| What we did | Built a performance-based candidate profile on the Customer Focused Selling® behavioral framework rather than a job description, then worked a prequalified database across major and secondary markets. We ran the outreach, the screening and the interview scheduling, and benchmarked every finalist with PXT Select® against people already performing in commercial integration. |
| The outcome | Two sales professionals placed and onboarded, faster than expected. The engagement started as a single opening and Circadia widened it to two concurrent searches while it was still running, which is the part worth noticing: they expanded the scope mid-search rather than waiting to see how the first one landed. |
“The PXT assessment gave me the tools to select the correct sales candidates. The data I received allowed me to understand how the candidate thinks, what their situational awareness is, and what sales behaviors they possess.”
Jim Scheer, Circadia
The process
How a Charlotte search runs, step by step
This is the same process we run nationally. The Charlotte-specific part is step one, where the market data above sets the band before we go to market rather than after a candidate declines.
- Build the Charlotte success model
We define what good looks like for this territory using PXT Select® benchmark data and the market figures above, not a job description copied from your last posting. - Source against the model
Candidates are screened against that model, so the shortlist is built on fit rather than on who happened to be looking this month. - Assess behavior and cognition
PXT Select® and Everything DiSC® on every finalist, so you see how they will actually sell before you meet them twice. - Structured interviews
The F.I.N.D. Interview System® gives your hiring team the same questions and the same scoring, so the decision is comparable across candidates instead of a debate about who interviewed well. - Offer and onboard
We stay in it through the offer and into onboarding, which is where most placements quietly start to fail. - Train and ramp for a year
The hire is trained on Customer Focused Selling® alongside your existing team for the first year, with the six-month guarantee behind it.

Roles
Sales roles we recruit for in Charlotte
Each of these maps to a named occupation code in the table above, which is why we can tell you what the band pays here before the search starts. Sales and sales leadership only, which is the point.
Account executives and enterprise AEs
Full-cycle and named-account sellers, the band with the deepest population in this metro.
Sales managers and directors
The band Charlotte is most over-indexed on at 1.97x national, and the one most companies find hardest to hire anywhere else.
Sales engineers and solutions consultants
Technical selling, 1.78x concentrated here and a small absolute pool, so these searches move fast or not at all.
SDRs and BDRs
Entry and early-career sellers, where the anchor is the 25th percentile rather than the occupation average.
VP Sales and CRO
Executive revenue leadership, anchored at the 75th percentile of the sales managers occupation.
Sales operations and enablement
The roles that make the rest of the team measurable.
Hiring something that is not on this list? It is still worth asking. Sales is the only function we work in, so the edges of it are usually still us.
Questions people actually ask
Charlotte sales recruiting questions
What do sales recruiters charge in Charlotte?
Contingency search is commonly 20 to 25 percent of first-year compensation and retained search commonly 25 to 33 percent. revenueify charges a fixed rate rather than a percentage, which matters because a percentage model pays the recruiter more the more you pay the candidate. Ask us for the current fixed rate and we will tell you before you are in a process.
How current is this pay data?
It is the most recent that exists. The federal wage survey behind it covers a May 2025 reference period and was published on 15 May 2026, because the government takes about a year to process the survey. The next release is not due until spring 2027. Pay has moved since the survey period, so treat these figures as a floor rather than a ceiling.
What does an account executive earn in Charlotte?
The BLS median for the largest B2B sales occupation in this metro is $72,500 a year. Enterprise and technical account executives sit considerably higher at $124,370. Both are May 2025 estimates for the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia MSA.
Is Charlotte a good market to hire sales talent in?
Yes, with a caveat worth knowing. Sales is the best-paid occupational group in Charlotte relative to the national average out of all 22 major groups, and only five of the 22 beat national at all, while the metro overall pays slightly below national. You are hiring in a premium market for sales specifically, inside a city that looks inexpensive on almost every other role.
Do you only recruit sales roles?
Yes. Sales and sales leadership, individual contributors through CRO, and nothing else. revenueify is a sales training and revenue operations firm, so the screening is built on a sales success model rather than on resume review.
Is sales training really included with the placement?
Yes. The hire is trained on Customer Focused Selling® for a full year alongside your existing team, included with the placement rather than sold separately. It is the reason the placements stick, not an add-on to the invoice.
Do you guarantee the hire?
Yes, a six-month guarantee on every hire. The number we would rather be judged on is the one after that: 96 percent of the sales professionals we place are still in the role at the one-year mark, firm-wide, across every placement we make.
Does revenueify have an office in Charlotte?
No. Jon Ray lives in Charlotte and runs searches here. We would rather say that plainly than list a coworking address. It is worth asking the same of any firm that lists a Charlotte address, and finding out whose name is actually on the lease.
Do you only recruit in Charlotte?
No. We recruit sales talent nationwide and have done for years. Charlotte is the first market where we have published the local compensation data, and Jon is the person who runs searches here.
How long does a Charlotte sales search take?
Thirty to forty-five days to fill, depending on the role. Executive and technical searches sit at the longer end. We will say plainly that speed is not the number we optimize for: it is easy to fill a seat in two weeks and it is expensive when that person is gone by month seven. We are measured on tenure, which is why 96 percent of the people we place are still in the role a year later.
Not sure a hire is the answer
Sometimes the problem is not who you have
Hiring is the expensive fix, and two of the three situations below get solved without adding anyone to payroll. If you are not sure which one you are in, that is normal, and it is the first thing we work out on a call.
You need to add a seller
The territory is uncovered, the quota is unowned, or somebody left and the pipeline went quiet with them. That is a search, and it is what this page is about.
You have the people, they are not producing
The team is the right size and the right shape, but deals stall in discovery, discounting creeps in, and forecasts miss. Hiring another rep into that does not fix it, it multiplies it. That is a training problem.
You need the whole revenue system
No sales leader, no process, no forecast you trust, and the founder is still the best closer in the building. A single hire lands into a vacuum. You need leadership and structure first.
